About Us
Stoney Wolf Outdoors, previously known as Stoney Wolf Productions, has a rich legacy in outdoor media. Founded by Gary Holmes and Ed Wolf, the company produced its first elk hunting video, "Elk Hunting in the Rocky Mountain West," completed in 1984 after two years of work. Realizing they were producers rather than distributors, they sought a partnership with Stoneydale Press to add video programs to their offerings. With the help of marketing strategist Tony Schoonen, they established the Stoney Wolf Productions partnership, which soon expanded beyond hunting and fishing content to include projects for state and federal agencies, featuring significant events like the 1988 Yellowstone fires. But the company never lost its roots and was always committed to providing the best hunting, fishing and outdoor entertainment and education to American sportsmen and women.

In 1996, Tony and Patrick Kirsch, along with David Franey, acquired Stoney Wolf from its original partners. This new team thrived for over 20 years, distributing outdoor media to thousands of retailers nationwide. However, the company temporarily closed in 2019 due to the streaming industry overtaking DVD sales. In 2023, David Franey purchased the Stoney Wolf assets and partnered with new investors to create the revamped Stoney Wolf Outdoors streaming service. Launching in 2024, the channel focuses on digitizing classic outdoor films previously available only on VHS and DVD and now boasts one of the largest outdoor media libraries with hundreds of titles.
